Join us at the Aquarium of the Bay on Wednesday, June 19th!

Naturalistic Decision Making (NDM) emerged in the 1980’s to study how people make tough decisions in real-world settings — how they handle time pressure, uncertainty, high stakes, changing conditions, team coordination demands, and often vague goals. What we have learned about NDM has changed the way we train decision makers, the types of decision support we provide, and the way we design organizations. These lessons are currently being applied in the areas of healthcare, law enforcement, firefighting, nuclear and petrochemical power plant operations, military command and control, crisis response, information technology and aviation.

The first NDM conference was held in 1989, so in 2019 we will be celebrating 30 years of research. The NDM conferences alternate between the U.S. and Europe biennially and provide a forum for discussion, debate and engagement between academics and practitioners.  The event will cover a wide range of topics including, but not limited to:

The NDM conference is now holding a Doctoral Consortium for PhD students seeking to receive feedback about their research from NDM experts. The consortium will be held as a workshop on Monday June 17, 2019. Visit our Doctoral Consortium page to learn more about this opportunity.

The NDM conference also offers several pre-conference workshops that give attendees the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of NDM topics and methods. During the main conference, attendees have the opportunity to gain valuable insights from our keynote speakers. Visit our Agenda page to learn more about these exciting speakers and topics.

The call for submissions for the 14th international conference is now open. Visit our Call for Papers page for submission guidelines and deadlines.
