Helicopter pilots’ tasks, subjective workload, and the role of external visual cues during shipboard landing

Cognitive task analysis conducted to obtain a detailed description of the helicopter shipboard landing procedure, and to identify relevant factors that affect pilots’ workload, performance, and safety. Researchers interviewed ten helicopter pilots with implications for improving external visual cues intended to reduce pilot workload and improve overall safety of the task.
